Ponteland Archers were established in 1967, and are based at Ponteland Leisure Centre, Callerton Lane, Ponteland. During the summer (first Sunday after Easter until the end of September) we shoot outside on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 17:30 until dusk, and on Sunday afternoons 14:00 – 17:00, weather permitting!  In the winter, we have the sole use of Ponteland Leisure Centre indoor sports hall and shoot once a week on Sunday afternoons from 14:00 – 17:00.  

Currently, we mostly shoot target archery with recurve bows, longbow or barebow at straw targets with a variety of different rounds and distances, as per the recognised Archery GB Imperial rounds. We are considering offering clout archery in the future.  As the club grows, we hope to offer internal and inter-club competitions as well as hosting Archery GB competitions and tournaments.

If you are a beginner and new to archery, you would be expected to complete a beginners course over a 4 week period with one of our coaches. We also offer taster sessions for you to decide whether archery is a sport you might enjoy. Should you choose to continue we offer affordable membership which allows you to continue shooting with Ponteland Archers.

We have a large selection of beginners’ bows, which would be used for the beginners course, with the option of hiring them for the season, or until you purchase your own kit.
